I’m generally a fan of very specific birthday gift requests (as long as I can make/attain them easily) – I do love finding that perfect gift and having it be a surprise, but I also love giving someone something that maybe they wouldn’t have bought themselves, or in a lot of cases, made themselves. My sister Maiken and her daughter Lucia have birthdays one day apart, and were both very to-the-point about what they would like.
Lucia wanted a birthday crown like the ones I made for my girls – Princess was more than happy to model it in case Lucia needed help figuring out how one should properly don a crown.
Maiken wanted an I Heart Armadillos tote. Finding the outline of an armadillo was easier than I thought it would be – apparently some people love armadillo shaped cookies (if you ever need a silhouette of something, search for cookie cutters first).
And they both wanted cowls. They chose the same pattern (Dew Drop Cowl) but different shades of Malabrigo silky. They were great knits – sumptuous yarn and an easy pattern (as an added bonus, I had no problem adjusting for a smaller size) that turns out looking very chic indeed. I may have to make some for the girls this Fall – I love the length because you can wear it loose or twist it another time to bring it snugly up around your neck for chillier days. Birdie helped me out this time (but she was sure to tell me that she preferred Mimi’s purple one for future reference – duly noted) with the modeling – damn, my kids are cute.
Happy Birthday Maiken and Lucia! Future, specific gift requests from the rest of my sisters can be submitted straightaway.
