Sesame Street – I Love Arts and Crafts
Momma: We got this book for your birthday. Do you like it?
Ella: Oh, yes. I love it. We do lots of projects. Hey, Momma – we can do a puzzle! We haven’t done the puzzle yet.
Momma: I know, but we’ve done other projects. Did you like making things with Momma?
Ella: Uh. Yeah. Maybe we can do that puzzle.
Momma: I’m sure we can, but let’s talk more about what you like about the book.
Ella: I like that puzzle.
Momma: Okay, then.
I found this book in a stack of random things at our JoAnn’s for $5. It might as well be titled, “Please Momma, Just One More Project Today?” In other words, it has been well received. None of the crafts are Sesame Street related – the characters just appear on the pages with little sayings or helpful hints. There isn’t an age range listed but I would say anywhere from 4-10, maybe even above if your child is as obsessed with projects as mine is. I do have to help Ella a lot with most of the ones we’ve completed but I generally do that on any project that isn’t straight coloring or painting.
I think it’s a fantastic book and I know we’ll use it over and over. Here are a few things we’ve made so far:
Pine-cone Birds (which turned into Gumball [the seed pods from our Sweet Gum tree] Birds because our pine-cones were the wrong shape.
Potato Stamps (they had it listed as fabric printing – we used paper)
Paper Snowflakes (or – Cover Your Entire Home With Glitter!)
Milk Carton Doghouses
And Pop-out Thank You Cards for Birdie’s birthday presents (this post is a little over-due). These were one of my favorite projects but took forever so we only did them for the grandparents.
She decided to illustrate the gifts she received – that one on the left is a leopard (and an ant – which was not a gift) she got from Grandma Schroeder. I’m pretty sure there was a zombie something or other thrown in as well. It seems to be a given at this point.
Right now we’re in the middle of a big Valentine’s Day project that has nothing to do with this book, but I have a feeling we’ll be coming back to it very soon. I guess there’s some sort of puzzle we can make?
