I love Halloween. It is by far my favorite holiday. I was that person in your office that went all-out with a costume, even though she and that one other guy were the only ones that really got in to it. I’m the mom who dresses up just to take her kids around the block – you know the one. The Awesome One.
This year, I got to dress up twice – once for trick-or-treating, and once for the dinner party we were throwing for our Epic Friends (that was for you, Enoch). I dug deep into my Inner Martha and raided the internet for food ideas, along with the dollar store for additional decor.
I found these candle/potpourri/whatevers and dressed them up with some melted wax and creepy creatures.
We’ve had the skull candles for years. I got them in the $1 section at Target. I figured this was the year they needed to burn, and the result was pretty awesome.
The menu items had a few names thrown around during the night but here was the basic breakdown: Poison Apple Cider and Witches Brew (sangria) to drink. Bat Hearts, wrapped in pig-flesh (bacon-wrapped-dates), and Eyes of Newt (olives) for Befores.
Goblin Gut Casserole (baked ziti with sausage) and Ogre Toes (bread sticks with walnut “toenails”) for the main course.
Soon after the feast was laid on the offering table, a pack of ravenous monsters appeared at our door.
And they brought dessert. A cheesecake, with a few hungry mice along for the ride .
They were delicious.
It was a very filling, very chilling feast indeed.
